Photographer’s Apocalypse! PS Generative Fill is now part of the Firefly Engine!

Since its launch, this tool has been causing quite a stir – or rather, a tidal wave of hilarity and creativity across the “photoverse.” Some folks have even dubbed it the “Photographer’s Apocalypse.”

Here are some highlighted examples:

  1. Expanding Album Covers: We all know how album covers can be a tad too small to capture the grandeur of the music, right? Well, people have taken this to heart and expanded iconic covers like Nirvana’s Nevermind and The Beatles’ Abbey Road. Because who wouldn’t want to see more of a baby chasing a dollar or the Fab Four crossing the street?

  1. Having Fun: The Generative Fill tool has brought a whole new meaning to the phrase “having a laugh.” For example, remember the viral image of the Pope in a puffer jacket? Someone went ahead and gave His Holiness legs and luggage. As if that wasn’t enough, someone else added a bear and a T-Rex having a picnic to a photo of the Smoky Mountains. Because why not?
  2. Removing Getty Watermark: This one’s a bit naughty. Some users have been using the tool to remove the Getty Images watermark from photographs. In a video, one TikTok user showcased this in under 26 seconds. Is this a game-changer or a problem? I guess that depends on who you ask!
  3. Adding a Lake With a Reflection: One Photoshop wizard used the tool to extend a portrait of a man sitting by a fire, adding a tranquil lake into the scene. They literally typed “Fill white with water like river or lake.” And voila, instant lakefront property!
  4. Perfecting Wedding Photographs: Dani Sork, a Utah-based photographer, is using the tool to whip wedding photos into shape in record time. Unwanted photobombers and yellow curbs are history with a few swift moves. As Sork said, “We’re living in the future.”
  5. Giving The Mona Lisa Legs: Ever wondered what’s outside the frame of the Mona Lisa? Well, one TikTok user did, and thanks to the Generative Fill tool, Mona Lisa has legs now. And yes, there’s also someone taking a photo of the leggy Mona Lisa on their smartphone. Because it’s not every day you see the Mona Lisa in full length!
  6. Extending The Last Supper: To wrap things up, let’s not forget about graphic designer Henrich Henkel who extended da Vinci’s The Last Supper painting. Maybe he was trying to make room for more guests?

Given its impressive capabilities, some have even claimed that this tool might cause photographers to lose their jobs. However, it is still early days, and the true impact of this technology on the photography industry remains to be seen…
